SUMMARY

After a summer of wild and unpredictable weather that included the hottest June and wettest July on record, it was interesting to see that the cost of living crisis is still the biggest factor affecting people’s holiday plans.

We were surprised to see how few people booked their accommodation through Airbnb. The site was often referenced as having more rooms available worldwide than any hotel chain. But it’s clear the people of Cork prefer to spend their holidays in the comfort of a hotel room at the end of a hard day of sunning.

Most surprisingly was the decline of travel agents as the method of booking a holiday, with just 8% of consumers choosing them. Although, in the 55+ demographics they still held 57% of the market, they face a challenge in attracting younger digital first consumers.
