As of April 21st Google has been factoring mobile friendliness into its algorithm for search results. We predicted this would have a  big impact on the top results in searches as well as traffic to mobile friendly sites. It has now come into full effect and has changed the way web designers approach their projects across the globe. In this article I will be sharing with you the importance of being mobile friendly post mobilegeddon.

The results of this have been staggering. Now the top 3 search results are all mobile friendly sites 81% of the time and the top result is mobile friendly 83% of the time. It’s more important than ever to have a fully optimized site as without it you stand to be losing out on a large chunk of potential customers.

A study issued by Duda has also shown that there are meaningful traffic gains for mobile friendly websites in small businesses. They looked at 4,700 small businesses websites hosted on their platform that were already mobile friendly pre-mobilegeddon . They tracked their traffic for six weeks before and after mobilegeddon and the results were great for mobile friendly websites.

Websites that have a smaller amount of traffic saw the biggest improvement of 13.8%, however sites that were already performing very well still improved and achieved greater visibility. The average increase in traffic for the websites in question was 10.8% across the board.

There was no significant data to say that mobile only sites did any better or worse than mobile responsive website designs as they both benefitted in a similar manner from the new algorithm. So sites optimised for mobile we found to be just as effective as those that were built specifically for mobile.

So in conclusion being mobile friendly is a must these days. If your website isn’t optimized for mobile then it’s reasonable to assume you’re missing out on potential clients and should contact some web design professionals to rectify the issues before they become a huge problem.
